Store nyheter i nabolandet - Zimbabwe's nye kabinett blir tatt i ed i dag. På tide, kan du si, siden valget var 29. mars i fjor... Opposisjonsleder Morgan Tsvangirai ble tatt i ed som ny statsminister på onsdag, og han holdt en inspirerende tale:
"Political violence must end today. We can no longer afford brother against brother, because one happened to have a different political opinion," Tsvangirai said to cheers.
"The transitional government will make food available and affordable," he said. "No Zimbabwean will ever go hungry again."
"Our hospitals must be places of healing ... On Monday, all schools must reopen. This Monday." (se her for mer)

Here is a man who won the elections in March last year under tyrannical circumstances, yet the Thabo Mbeki government and its allies refused to accept the outcome. What they did instead was make life hell for Tsvangirai. They tolerated assassination attempts, the murder of hundreds, unspeakable acts of torture and rape, passport withdrawals, all with the intention of rendering Tsvangirai powerless. (se her for mer)
Ja, det er jo ikke akkurat rosenrødt. Til og med nå, mens Tsvangirai ble tatt i ed, er det flere titalls politiske fanger i landet - mange fra Tsvangirais parti og journalister.
Men jeg leser Obamas bok 'The Audacity of Hope', og selv om det i dette tilfellet kanskje er litt naivt (med tanke på all manipulasjonen som har pågått for å gjøre Tsvangirai maktesløs) velger jeg å HÅPE at han vil ha reell politisk makt og vil bidra til å endre situasjonen i Zimbabwe til det bedre.
