The TRIP - part III

The drivers chose a different route than normal and drove us to a border crossing closer to Lilongwe. Unfortunately this border crossing closes at around 4-5pm, and we arrived just too late to proceed. The bus was filled with Malawian business women, and all luggage has to be taken out and checked by the customs authorities, and tax has to be paid before we can proceed. The bus had a huge trailer and was overfilled with luggage. It took several hours to pack it, and it would take many hours to unload everything, check it and load it again. Here is Chris in action:

So we prepared ourselves to spend the night at the border. I wasnt too devastated - it was lovely to feel the fresh air, to stretch my legs and just relax after days and nights in the bus. The sun was about to set, and the sky was beautiful beyond words. There was no electricity around, so later when the night came, it was dark and we could see billions and billions of stars. Perfect.

On our left hand side was Mozambique, and on our right hand side Malawi. Here is me the next morning with Malawian mountains in the background:

There was a toilet in the customs office, and it felt like heaven when I could undress, wash myself with baby wipes (my best friend on this trip) and change underwear... The bus didnt have toilets as promised, so this toilet came like a blessing :) I felt as a new person.

Here is our bus:

Ok, this is taking time and getting expensive. Let me continue with Malawi another time... But we have arrived Mzuzu safely and are enjoying ourselves!
